... and counting every 20 seconds...

Dear Friends of Life:
It is time for an update on the annual March for Life bus
trip to Washington D.C. for January 2005. You are becoming victims of your own
success. We are pretty sure there will be three busses, plus one from St.
Thomas Aquinas HS, leaving New Hampshire for D.C. on January 23. This means we
will need more than the 40 motel rooms we had last year. We have negotiated
with the motel for an additional 20 rooms. These additional 20 rooms are
smoking while the other 40 are non-smoking. We are looking for a number of
people who want smoking rooms or are willing to sacrifice for one night and
stay in a smoking room. Offer it up for the babies.
The motel, Quality Inn – Takoma Park, is under new
management. They are unwilling to give us a flat rate per room regardless of
how many are staying in the room. All of this means that we are forced to
increase what we charge for a number of the rates. There will be no change in
cost for those spending the Sunday night at the Shrine. The cost of the bus is
not increasing.
The following is the list of the original and new costs:
|
Original Cost |
New Cost |
Change in Cost |
Bus costs only (if staying at the shrine all
night) |
$65 |

Bus + Motel @ 3 per room |

Bus + Motel @ 2 per room |

Bus + Motel @ 1 per room |

$130 |
No Change |
If you are not traveling on the bus but are staying at the
motel, subtract $65 from the above Bus+Motel costs. If you have already
paid and decide you can not afford the additional cost we will return you
deposit. Just let us know.
Because of these changes we have to be much more precise in
figuring the number of rooms needed. We are asking that if at all possible we
have to have your reservations by December 7, 2004. We have to have a final
commitment for the number of rooms we will need. We also need to give the
Shrine a final number for people staying there overnight.
One bus will be leaving from the seacoast (Rochester and
Exeter). One will start from Newport. The third bus will begin at Exit 20, I-93
(Tilton), with a second stop at St. Elizabeth Seaton Parish, Bedford and a
third stop at Denny’s Restaurant, Nashua. We will send an itinerary the 1st
or 2nd week of January 2005 when things are more finalized and the
holidays are over.
As a reminder, all money will go through the St. Joseph
Respect Life Committee of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Laconia, NH. All checks
should be made to St. Joseph Respect Life. There is a list, on the back
of this letter, of the people from around the state who can be contacted to let
them know you are coming with us in January. They can also provide assistance
to you in organizing your church or area.
Because we are leaving on Sunday, Bishop John McCormack and a
number of priests will be flying down to join us in DC. We believe a few
priests will be able to join us on the busses.
Remember that parents or a chaperone must accompany pilgrims
who are teenagers or younger. No chaperone may be responsible for more than 3
young people. Parents can be responsible for as many of their own children as
they have with them. If you have any questions concerning this, feel free to
contact us.

There is sad news for the pro-life cause in New Hampshire.
Valerie Sharp will be moving to Ohio about December 15, 2004 to return to
college and to rejoin her family. Keep her in your prayers.
We will all miss you but pray for your success. I personally thank you
and all your family for starting this bus to DC 13 or 14 years ago and for all
the work you have done to keep it going and growing each year. Thank you
my friend.
I / we will be joining you January 23, 2005 for the March for Life in
Washington D.C. on January 24th.
