The Sandown Historical Society thought a good Boy Scout Eagle Service Project to do would be to restore a cannon that they had. It is a reproduction, not a genuine or authentic, English cannon from the Revolutionary War. This cannon was reportedly built in the 1970's but has deteriorated due to being outdoors. The wood of the cannon wheels and the some of the carriage parts had really deteriorated. My project led the team to replace the wheels, sand down and repaint all the wood, sandblast and repaint the metal, and re-position the cannon at the tip of the Sandown Historical Society property on Main Street. I used the famous Molly Stark Cannon, which is also an English cannon, as the guide for the improvements. Many thanks to donors, other Boy Scouts, and adults helping with the work, and the Sandown Historical Society for all the support. Contact me at prholdgate@yahoo.com for info. |
